Privacy Policy
This is a reader-supported publication with no advertising business, which means we have no commercial reason to know anything about you and have designed the site accordingly. We collect the minimum needed to deliver a newsletter to people who ask for one and to keep the site online.
Information we collect
- Email address — only if you subscribe to the dispatch. We ask for nothing else: no name, no location, no demographic information.
- Standard server logs — our hosting provider records the usual technical information generated when any browser requests a page: IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referring page, and user-agent string. These logs exist for security and diagnostics.
- Correspondence — if you write to us, we retain the message and your address so we can reply and keep a record of corrections.
We do not ask for or store payment card details on this site, we do not maintain reader accounts, and there is nothing here to log into.
Cookies and analytics
We set no advertising or tracking cookies. We use one privacy-respecting analytics tool, Plausible Analytics, which is cookie-free, collects no personal data, does not fingerprint devices, and does not follow readers between sites. It tells us aggregate page counts and referrer sources — how many people read a piece and roughly where they arrived from — and nothing that identifies an individual. There are no advertising trackers, no social media pixels, no session recording, and no cross-site tracking of any kind on this site.
How we use information
Email addresses are used for one purpose: sending the dispatch to people who asked for it. Server logs are used for security, diagnosing faults, and rate-limiting abuse. Aggregate analytics inform editorial decisions about what to cover. Correspondence is used to reply to you and to maintain our corrections record. That is the complete list.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell, rent, licence, or trade personal information under any circumstances.
- We do not work with advertising networks or data brokers, and we run no advertising.
- We do not build behavioural profiles, infer interests, or segment readers for targeting.
- We do not share your email address with other publications, partners, or list-swap arrangements.
- We do not track readers across other websites or link site activity to identities from elsewhere.
Third-party services
Three vendors process limited data on our behalf: a web hosting provider, which generates the server logs described above; an email delivery provider, which stores subscriber addresses and sends the dispatch; and Plausible Analytics, described above. Each is bound by its own privacy terms and by our instruction to process data only as needed to provide the service. We do not authorise any of them to use reader data for their own purposes. The site also loads web fonts from Google Fonts; if you would prefer not to request them, most browsers and content blockers can prevent it, and the site remains fully readable in system fonts.
Data retention
Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and are removed within thirty days of either. Server logs are retained for ninety days and then deleted. Correspondence is retained for two years, except messages that resulted in a published correction, which we keep indefinitely as part of the editorial record.
Your rights
Whatever jurisdiction you read from, we extend the same rights to everyone: you may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Every dispatch carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address rather than merely flagging it. To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@thenullresult.review. We respond within thirty days and we do not require you to explain why you are asking.
Children’s privacy
This publication is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to hello@thenullresult.review and we will delete the record promptly.
International readers
We are based in the United States and our service providers may process data there. If you read from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our lawful basis for sending the dispatch is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing; our basis for maintaining server logs is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website. The access, correction, deletion, and objection rights described above are available to you regardless of where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and describe the change in the following dispatch. Material changes affecting how reader information is handled will be announced before they take effect, not after.

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
Acceptable use
You may read, quote, cite, print, and share this material for personal, educational, and journalistic purposes. You may not use the site to break the law; attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or those of our providers; scrape the site in a manner that degrades service for other readers; misrepresent our work as endorsing any product, supplier, or use in humans; or reproduce our material in commercial contexts that imply we recommend or supply anything. That last restriction is not boilerplate. It exists because the most likely misuse of this publication is a supplier quoting a summary out of context as though it constituted a recommendation.
Intellectual property and republication
All text, layout, and original graphics are the copyright of The Null Result unless otherwise noted. You may quote up to 200 words for review, comment, teaching, or news reporting with clear attribution to The Null Result and a link to the original page. Republication of full articles requires written permission, which we grant readily to non-commercial and educational users and decline where the publication or platform sells the compounds we cover. Nothing here transfers any right to use our name, wordmark, or house style as an endorsement.
User submissions
If you send us a pitch, a correction, or any other correspondence, you confirm that the material is yours to send and you grant us permission to use it in editing and, where relevant, to describe it in a published correction. We treat correspondence as on the record unless you say otherwise before sending. We may decline any submission without explanation, we do not pay for unsolicited material, and we cannot return or acknowledge everything we receive. Do not send us confidential information you are not free to share.
No warranty
This site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We work hard to be accurate and we correct errors publicly, but we make no warranty, express or implied, that the content is complete, current, or free of error, or that the site will be available without interruption. Scientific literature changes; a summary that is accurate today may be superseded. External links are provided for reference and we are not responsible for the content of other sites.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Null Result and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or its content, including any decision made in reliance on it. This is educational commentary on published animal research, not professional advice of any kind, and it must not be relied upon as a basis for any decision affecting health.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Null Result and its contributors from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your misuse of the site, your breach of these terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party.
Severability
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from them will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Washtenaw County, Michigan, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms; the date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

This publication is informational only. Everything here is a summary or criticism of published scientific literature, written for general education. It is not medical advice, not clinical guidance, and not a recommendation of any kind.
No professional relationship is created. Reading this site, subscribing to the dispatch, or corresponding with us does not create a doctor–patient, clinician–patient, or any other professional relationship. We are journalists and editors. Nobody on this masthead holds a clinical licence, and nobody here is in a position to advise on any individual’s health.
Animal research does not establish human safety or efficacy. The overwhelming majority of research described on this site was conducted in rats, mice, other animals, or cultured cells. Findings in those systems are hypothesis-generating. They do not demonstrate that a compound is safe in humans, that it is effective in humans, or that any effect observed in an animal would occur in a person. The failure rate in translating promising preclinical findings into demonstrated human benefit is high across all of biomedicine.
No compound discussed here is endorsed for human use. Nothing on this site should be read as suggesting that any peptide be taken, administered, obtained, or used by anyone. We publish no dosing, no protocols, no routes of administration, no preparation or storage instructions, and no sourcing information, and we will not supply them on request. We do not sell, supply, source, or recommend any substance.
Regulatory status varies and is not an endorsement. Where we note that a compound has been reviewed or approved by regulators in some jurisdiction, we record that as a matter of fact about the regulatory record. It is not a statement that the compound is appropriate for anyone, and it is not advice.

Editorial Ethics & Corrections
Sourcing standards
We work from primary literature wherever it is obtainable, and we do not cite a paper on the strength of another paper’s description of it. Where we cannot access a source, we describe the research area rather than asserting a specific finding, and we say that is what we are doing. We do not print identifiers — DOIs, accession numbers, volume and page references — that we have not individually verified, which is why our reference blocks describe literatures rather than listing citations. Every claim about a result names the species and model it came from. Every characterisation of a finding as replicated means an unaffiliated group published a comparable experiment; where that has not happened, we say the finding has been repeated, not replicated.
Conflicts of interest
No contributor may hold a financial interest in any entity that manufactures, distributes, sells, or markets compounds we cover, or accept payment, gifts, travel, or hospitality from one. Contributors disclose to the editor any relationship that could reasonably appear to compromise independence, including prior employment and academic affiliations, and are recused where one exists. We commission no work from anyone with a commercial stake in the subject matter.
Advertising and sponsorship
We accept none. No display advertising, no sponsored articles, no native advertising, no affiliate links, no paid placement, no product samples, and no underwriting from interested parties. There is no arrangement under which coverage can be purchased or influenced, and there is no commercial department to approach. The publication is funded by voluntary reader contributions, described in full on the About page.
How corrections are handled
Corrections are appended to the affected article as a dated note at the top of the piece, stating what was wrong, what it now says, and when it was changed. The erroneous text is not silently replaced and the correction is never removed. Minor typographical fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note. Anything touching a factual claim — a species, a model, a sample size, a replication status, an attribution — gets a public correction regardless of how small it seems. Where an error is serious enough to undermine a piece’s argument, we say so in the note rather than patching around it.
How to request a correction
Write to corrections@thenullresult.review with the page, the passage, and what you believe is wrong. Pointing us to the underlying source helps and is not required. We acknowledge within two working days and resolve within five, and we will tell you our reasoning whether or not we make the change. Corrections are welcome from anyone, including from researchers whose work we have characterised.
Section 05
Accessibility Statement
A publication whose entire purpose is to make a difficult literature legible has no business being hard to read. We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA, and we treat falling short of that as a fault to fix rather than a target to aspire to.
In practice: the site is plain semantic HTML that works fully with JavaScript disabled; every page has a skip-to-content link, one main heading, and headings nested in order; navigation and form controls carry accessible labels; keyboard focus is always visible and never trapped; text and background colours are chosen to hold contrast at body sizes; every image has descriptive alternative text; text reflows without loss of content when enlarged; and motion is minimal by design and reduced further when a reader’s system asks for that.
We know of no outstanding barriers, which is not the same as there being none. If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, write to hello@thenullresult.review and describe what happened and what you were using. We will acknowledge within two working days, tell you what we can fix and when, and send you the content in a format that works for you in the meantime. Reports of accessibility barriers are treated with the same seriousness as corrections.
